  1. I like this, but it’s not strictly true. The christian tradition has Christ becoming king by crucifixion so there’s certainly some other contexts for power coming from suffering.

  2. Interesting recontextualization. I was dealing with a different, Socratic problem. Of course, Socrates, e.g. in choosing the hemlock, also drew power from suffering.
