How about instead of teaching kids to boost their self-esteem, we teach kids to think about something besides themselves?

  1. Because low self esteem is actually what leads to thinking only about yourself – I know, I have this struggle. Actually, working on my own worth and feeling more genuinely secure in who I am is what leads me to be able to focus on others. Having said that, one of the things they suggest to help depression/anxiety is to help others and get the focus off yourself, so perhaps it is 6 of one and half a dozen of the other? Thanks for the thought!

    1. I agree that respecting oneself helps with focusing on others. My idea is that thinking less in terms of firm self/other boundaries is generally better than esteeming the self.

      1. I see. Thank you 🙂
