“I will go to sleep at 11 pm.”

Many predictions of human behavior are actually promises.

Political action is unpredictable.

It would not be the fault of political science were every one of its predictions to turn out to be wrong.

The gold standard of science?

There is a strong correlation between thinkers who predict and predictable thoughts.

One problem with prediction.

Thought that does not lag behind action can hardly be reflective.

Why was this event not predicted?

The first response is epistemological: the world is in principle predictable, but our knowledge is uncertain. The second response is ontological: our knowledge is uncertain in virtue of the unpredictable nature of the world.

On the value of prediction.

Theories which predict accurately do not necessarily partake of truth; they may partake of the plentitude of falsehoods which come to pass.
