You can’t be a “progressive” unless you have a notion of “progress.”
The challenge is to remain progressive without believing in progress.
The progressive theory of knowledge states that the truth obscured is clarified in the long run. The primordial theory states the opposite: the truth is apprehended with particularly clarity in the beginning, but becomes increasingly obscured. The polemical theory, seeing truth and falsity as combatants, reckons that the vanquished always returns to even the score.
